Traditional Offerings
The traditional opening worship offering will benefit two longstanding mission partners: the people of Haiti and the Liberia Annual Conference. Bishop Bard has designated a 10% tithe of the Annual Conference offering received go to Water for Life, addressing a critical need in Liberia to improve water access and sanitation standards.
Haitian Assets for Peace International (HAPI)
7130 patient consultations, 358 moms receiving prenatal care, 1878 lab tests, 117 young people in skilled training--these are a few accomplishments the Michigan Conference helped HAPI (Advance #3020490) achieve in 2023. Our presence ensures families in Mizak have access to dignified healthcare, training for tomorrow, and fair-wage jobs today. Our future? Start Right gives babies a healthy beginning; now, we're fighting to extend life. HAPI is tackling Haiti's biggest killers--hypertension and heart disease--for lives that are healthier, longer, and more prosperous. But we're not just treating; we're training local nurses and doctors on current technology to empower them to take the helm of their healthcare and be hometown heroes! HAPI asks for your continued support to resource our heroes in Haiti. Click to download a flyer with more information.
Bishop Judith Craig Children's Village
In 2000, the Bishop Judith Craig Children’s Village was established in Liberia to provide care for children left orphaned by civil war (Advance #11820A). The village provides basic education, health care and counseling for the children. Established as an orphanage, most of the children today spend their days in the village in classrooms and receiving meals, but return to their own homes each evening. Support for this program assures the children are able to attend school through scholarships and provided care and meals.
Water for Life
About 75% of Liberians do not have access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities. Most residents are drinking from unsafe sources of water and do not have access to standard toilets facilities. The Water for Life (Advance #3020811) project is a grassroots initiative and seeks to address the water and sanitation needs of the affected communities through the construction of wells/hand pumps and toilet facilities within communities, establishment of community structures and leadership to supervise water access, mobilizing, training, and educating communities on water and sanitation, and promoting the rights to access clean and safe drinking water and good sanitation.
